In June of 2011, I visited Davenport Landing, just north of Santa Cruz, and drove up California's coast highway, Highway 1, as the sun was setting. 

California Coast (Davenport Landing) is the first painting I've painted from that trip. It began as a demonstration painting in a Landscape Painting workshop I taught soon after. The light and intensity of the color of cliffs and sky was breathtaking that day... I worked hard to do it justice.

I'm planning on returning to these images, and to the central and north coasts, and to the wetlands of the Monterey Bay, to create a new series. At least, it's on my list....
